WHaQ! (We’re Here and Queer!) was founded in Bangalore, India in August 2009 by a small group of women who wanted to create a support space for queer, lesbian, bisexual, transgender women in Bangalore that is social, warm and inviting.
We have created a safe haven of support and love for our Queer Sisterhood and we welcome anyone that identifies as a woman to be a part of WHaQ! We hold regular meetings for Queer Women. This is a vibrant group, and it’s an exciting time for us!
In our meetings, we talk about everything a Queer/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender Woman faces today: from coming out to friends and family, to relationship issues, to women’s issues as a part of the greater world. Ours is a casual and friendly space used by women to comfort, to learn, and share with. We plan formal and informal social events, and have co-hosted (with GAY) the Bangalore Queer Film Festival and Bangalore Pride activities since our founding.
As we continue to grow with Maya for Women, our mother organization, we have lots of exciting plans. If you would like to be a part of WHaQ!, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with WHaQ as the subject line.
We believe in strict confidentiality and protect the identities of our members to the utmost. If you are just coming out, or you are new in the city, please do contact our helpline as well. +91 070222 22180. You are not alone. We are Here. And Queer.
